Hauntings

I love a good haunting story. I really do I cannot help myself where these sort of things are concerned. I do not like to be totally terrified though. I just like to sit on the edge of my seat, maybe become a bit uneasy about what i am reading or hearing but that is about it.

I found a new blog yesterday that I really like. It is called Diaspora South and it is written by a fascinating gentleman named Ari. One of the somewhat ongoing topics in his blog is the existance of presences within his home.

I do not know how many of you have ever experienced this sort of thing but it can often times be very creepy.

Over the years of my short life I have experienced this sort of thing either in places that I have lived or in homes of people I know.

One of the more recent examples of it was a house I lived in with some roommates shortly after my freshman year at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. It was a rather old house near the campus. I am not sure of its exact construction date but it was sometime in the early 1920's. There were a couple of "ghosts" if you will that lived in this particular house. The primary lease holder was a lady named Cindy, she claimed to be a medium and that we were all safe. According to her one of the "guests" was an old woman who had lived in the house when it was first built. Her name was Hazel and she had been unable to leave her beloved home behind. Hazel was harmless except that she liked to open doors and you might awaken to the front door being wide open on a hot morning. You could be sitting on the couch watching the tele and the deadbolt would turn and the front door would open. There would be absolutly no one there. We would just say hello Hazel and close the door.

The other guest in the house was a small boy who had lived in the house sometime later but I am not sure when. According to Cindy he had been hit by a car one day and killed instantly. He stayed in the front bedroom bothered no one except that the room was always cold. In the middle of summer with no a/c in the house you would get chills being in that room.

As a small child I was always terrified of such goings on. I grew up in a small town in Colorado called Florence. The entire area had once been a booming oil and mining area. There were several towns that had almost died out but there was also a town called Chandler that no longer existed. There was nothing but foundations left of it and my god it was creepy. Considering that people once came there trying to find their fortune it brought with its fair share of crazy people.

The local historic hotel is horribly haunted. Many murders happened there in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and to this day I believe unwell spirits wander its halls. When I was a child there were all sorts of strange shadows that would appear on walls. Such as the outline of someone sitting in a rocker and the shadow moved. But there was no rocker in the room. There was a rather large old vistorian house that sat right next to it. It was a gorgeous old house. Rumor had it it was haunted by the ghost of a man and his daughter. He had raped and killed his daughter you see then he hung himself out the upstairs bedroom window.

One of the creepiest houses was the house my paternal grandparents lived in. It was a rather old house built around the turn of the 20th century. I don't know the story of the man who originally lived in the house but he hung himself in the grand old oak tree in the front yard. My grandmother said he had been a very disturbed man. I remember from the moment they moved in I never felt right in that house. As Ari has stated in his blog it often times felt like there was someone watching you, with in difference but watching you none the less. I also awoke many a night in that house ready to come out of my skin because I felt I was being watched and that what was watching me had no desire for anyone to be in that house.

Perhaps the strangest one I know about is the house my Uncle Phillip was paid to tear down. For years people had always felt very put off by the house some people had bought the house after the little old lady that lived there died. They wanted it torn down because they planned to build new. When they got to the basement portion they discovered a secret room. The man who had built the house had had a baby by his own daughter and suffocated it. he had buried it in the basement and inscribed that he could not live with himself on the tombstone for what he had done. I imagine it was his daughter and her baby that were so unwell and had always but off people.

I think i have rambled on enough for the day. i will do another installment soon and tell you about the Victorian house my aunt lived in that almost scared me to death.

Miss Gay America 2006

Well kiddies it is almost that time of year.

Its the time that I look forward to like some people look forward to the Superbowl, Miss Gay America.

I am a drag whore and I live and die with the bitches on that stage.

This is going to be a very exciting year there are so many wonderful formers from years past coming back to support the system and the list of contestants just has me blown away. To say that this is going to be a bloodbath is putting it lightly.

Normally I am pretty good about being able to predict the top ten and who has the best chance of winning. This year i am however just stumped. There are a ton of folks who have taken a break that have qualified to come as well as former national title holders from other systems that I get discombobulated just trying to narrow the field to a good top ten. The judges have their work cut out for them this year.

I have to say of all the people competing I would most like to see Coti Collins take home the title. I just cannot think of a reason why she would not bring about a whole new level excellence within this system. Talk about a true seaoned professional. I saw this girl last year for the first time and I have been in awe ever since. She does one of the best Shirley MacClaine illusions I have ever seen. She also does Reba and Judy Garland. Just an AMAZING entertainer. Oh and Mr Brian I know you will be reading this she is a former Miss Gay West Virginia. Just an absolutle doll! Here's to hoping she will be crowned Miss Gay America 2006. If you read this good luck Coti I will see you in Memphis!!!

My Ten Year High School Reunion! Its Fun Being So Fabulous!

Greetings and salutations to all in the blogging world who read me!!

I have been insanely busy with work and school and an upcoming dinner party at my house that I have had no time to sit down and actually post but I have tried to keep my my reading of the blogs that I love. I am sorry If my comments have been sparse, i such a windy old heifer that it eats up time and that is something that I have been hemmoraging! Now on with the post!

Picture it Ozark, Arkansas 1995.

It was a muggy Friday evening and we were all making our way across the local football field. All of our futures lay ahead of us. We would be going our seperate ways that night. Some of us to never see each other again in the case of a classmate who was killed in a car wreck.

I moved away to Fayetteville to start my college career and also to come out of the closet. I was extremely tired of living a lie.

Now picture it Ozark, Arkansas labor day weekend 2005.

I pulled up with my friend Princess and we got out of the car. It was hot and the meet and greet we were heading off to was in the old high school gymnasium. Immediately my stomach turned into knots. I was about to see some of the people who I had never really cared to see again. I walked in and was immediatly greeted by my old friend Crystal who I have seen off and on over the years and she gave me a big hug. It was good to see her. There were a great number of other folks there who you could tell were uncomfortable. Shortly after my departure from the town my fag hag and one of my dearest friends in high school had professed her love for me and was extremely upset that i did not want to "be straight" and marry her. She had told the entire town. The ice quickly melted though I started chatting and talking and people started talking to Princess and soon you could tell we all realized we had moved past high school. That most of what had seperated us and had kept us all apart was just silly at this point.

We all moved over to the football field for the game. In the ten short years i have been gone they have developed an in county rivalry with another school we were all puzzled by this. We were different divisions than Charleston when we were in school.

We all began to congregate and talk and more people showed up. It was a great time. My old friend Kelly who had moved away before senior year was there. I love Kelly she has always marched to the beat of her own drum and everyone else be damned. She showed up looking runway model fabulous and had jaws agape as she walked by. People said she looked like she has been in New york all these years, but I knew where she had been. In Fayetteville with me like me just being herself. The idle chit chat continued and Princess made a friend.

As the game progressed quite few more folks arrived. I looked up at one point and saw my old friend Colin coming across the track and proceeded to yell "WELL THANK GOD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS GAINED WEIGHT!!!!" Evil I know, but it made me feel better, his belly being from his love of beer mine from laziness and a love of food. He introduced me to his wife, Christy and let me tell you this chick is the BOMB! I had found my new friend for the evening. She is a former cheerleader from Louisiana Tech and just loads of fun to be around. Once she and i started cutting it up a lot of the folsk who used to not talk to me in high school must have decided i was either ok or just funny because they were just flocking around.

We went from there as a huge group to have dinner at a local pizza joint and then went on to Crystal's house just outside of town. As usual i was just one of the girls and sat in the floor and just chopped it up with the women folk in the living room. Princess like the royalty she is sat in a chair and held court.

Overall it was a fabulous time! Princess said if the husband can't get away to come with me to the next one she is so there!

Letters from Mimi and other post cards from the edge!

Hello all!!!

This is going to hopefully be a very fun and exciting new section of my blog.

Mimi is my sister and she lives about three hours away from me in Fayetteville, home of the Arkansas Razorbacks. I absolutly adore her! She is a basically a walking incarnation of Karen Walker, except instead of stuff for martini's in her coat she has a liquor purse that goes everywhere with her.

Occassionally there will be posts from Mimi that I will post on here from her e-mails. I hope everyone enjoys her as much as I do.

The Three Sisters Ride Again!!!

Oh lord what a weekend!!!

I went out of town for my 10 year high school reunion. That will be a post in and of itself but it is what led to the three sisters getting together. Afetr my reunion I went off to Fayyetteville with my best friend to wait for my husband to arrive from Little Rock. We had a nice time that night and the next day but Sunday night the fun began.

I had called my sister Big Mama and told her we wanted to come into town and hang out for a bit before going to watch my drag child in the show. She readily agreed. Well the hubby and I got all dolled up and headed into town. On the way we called Big Mama and told her we were on our way and found out that Mimi was there. I was elated. Mimi and I have had some bad times but she is still my sister and I love her to death. I was so glad that she was going to be there and that we would get to hang out and hopefully do away with the dirty laundry that had kept us seperate for so long.

Now for those of you out in blog land that only know me from here I am a very dynamic person in my personality. I can fit into most any scene, be it with big butch leather daddies, hicks and rednecks, to just being a big ole girl I am always on my game. I however don't think my hubby knew fully what he was in for when Sasha, Big Mama, and Mimi get under the same roof and there is alcohol around.

Mimi answered the door in her usual "oh for heaven's sake of course *I* will get the door" manner and the squeal that ripped from the both of us as we screamed each other's name probably made dogs howl as far away as alaska. We just went right back as if it was old times and nothing had ever happened it was great. there was more squealing when I saw big mama and then we all went into the kitchen to catch up!

Big Mama has seen me recently but not Mimi, so there was a ton of stuff to rattle on about. One of our things is that we have multiple movies comitted to memory and we are all one of the characters. One of the best movies to sum us up is the First Wives Club. I am Brenda, being the Bette loving old Jewish mother type person that i am most days, Mimi is Elise nuf said, and Big Mama is Annie, sometimes crazy and neurotic when she is drinking but just loveable. Let me tell ya the booze and movie lines were flowing. We were stepping right into character and delivering all of the lines with flawless precision. Poor Michael had left the room at one point and came back in just as we were all screaming "I'M SORRY!!!!!!!" from the scene where Annie has just realized that her husband has left her for her therapist. This was within five minutes of arrival. You can only imagine how it went down hill from there.

We all eventually went out only to miffed by the obscene line waiting to get into the club. We said screw this and like the three little princesses we are walked on down the street past the crowd with our husbands in tow just rolling their eyes at us. We ended up back at Big Mama's house for awhile longer before Michael and I retired back to where we were staying at.

Needless to say it was a fabulous evening and I had a great time. My throat is still sore from all the squealing and screeching we did. My sister's I love you both and I so glad that we have come together again so that we can tell everyone we know at the top of our lungs in fabulous white outfits "YOU DON'T OWN ME! I'M NOT JUST ONE OF YOUR MANY TOYS!"
